OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

Are you working or studying in the field of electronics, telecommunications or automation? Do you want to learn how these areas are interconnected in the rapidly growing branch of wireless automation, an area under major interest of today's industry?

In the last two decades the point to point and point to multipoint wireless communication has become general and it plays a major role in our life (mobile communication, Bluetooth, WiFi, etc.). Because of the availability of wireless connections on different levels and at cheap costs, the engineers are looking nowadays for new applications and improvements of the existing automation and control systems by exploiting the capabilities of wireless connections. The wireless automation course gives an up-to-date review of the current wireless technologies, information processing methods and control theories, and how these are applied in wireless automation systems. In addition, the relevant industrial standards of wireless automation, such as WirelessHART, will be introduced. In the exercises and tutorials we will also implement simple applications with wireless sensor and actuator networks.

CONTENTS

  • Communication channels and protocols
  • Wireless communication methods: IEEE 802.11x, Bluetooth, Zigbee
  • QoS and security requirements in wireless networks
  • Wireless sensor networks
  • Data fusion in sensor networks
  • Communication constrained control, applications
  • Wireless automation standards: WirelessHART, ISA100.11a
